Turkey and Israel to Jointly Explore East Med Natgas

Turkey and Israel will jointly explore energy in the eastern Mediterranean and work to export natural gas to Europe, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reported via Bloomberg.

  • The comments were made following his meeting with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu in New York.
  • “We will start energy drilling work with Israel. We will also start operating energy export lines not only to Turkey but also from Turkey to Europe,” Erdogan said.
  • “Cooperation in energy could particularly carry our relations to a new level” with Israel, Erdogan also said, adding that he may make a visit to Israel.
  • Turkey also has ambitions to create a gas hub in the country to redirect the lost gas transit flows from the Nord Stream pipeline.
