TURKEY: Foreign Minister Discusses Economic Ties During China Visit

  • Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Turkey wants to cooperate with China on energy, including nuclear power. “We expect investments in Turkey to be encouraged and more imports to be made,” he said according to Milliyet. According to AA, discussions also centered on encouraging more Chinese companies to invest in Turkey and harmonizing efforts on the Middle Corridor and the Belt and Road Initiatives.
  • Dunya report that total credit volume within the banking sector contracted by 15% in real terms in the nine months between July 2023 and April this year as tight monetary policy took effect.
  • The central bank will publish weekly data on foreign investment and reserves at 12:30BST/14:30 local time. Meanwhile, President Erdogan receives his Uzbekistan counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Ankara, followed by bilateral meetings and press conference.
