Turkey Nears Approval of Sweden’s NATO Bid

  • Turkey moved closer to approving Sweden’s long-awaited accession to NATO with a key parliamentary committee backing the bid, Bloomberg report. Turkey’s Foreign Affairs Committee endorsed Sweden’s entry to the military alliance. The parliament is widely expected to follow suit when it votes, Bloomberg write with President Erdogan signaling he’s in favour and his ruling AK party and its allies having a comfortable majority in the chamber.
  • Ekonomi report that while it had been expected that the final meeting to determine the 2024 minimum wage would be held today, the cabinet meeting was not on today's agenda. The newspaper write that a clear date for the new meeting has not yet been announced.
  • Turkey's manufacturing confidence fell to 99.1 in December from 100.2 in November, data from the CBRT showed yesterday. Capacity utilization fell to 77.5% from 78% in November. Trade balance figures for November will cross on Friday (Est: -$5.90bln; Prior: -$6.52bln).
