Turkey Signs LNG Trade Deal with Exxon

Turkey's BOTAS signed an LNG trade deal with ExxonMobil on Wednesday according to the Turkish Energy Minister.

  • "The U.S. is already one of our important suppliers of LNG," Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on X.
  • "With this agreement, which is planned to be long-term, we will take another step towards diversifying our resources," Bayraktar added without giving further details.
  • The FT reported in late April that Turkey was in talks with US energy giant ExxonMobil over a multibillion-dollar deal to buy LNG, in an effort to curb its dependence on Russian energy.
  • It runs counter to the idea that Turkey will become a gas hub for Russia to the redistribute its volumes from.
