TURKEY: Simsek in London for Series of Investor Meetings

  • Treasury & Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek will take part in investor meetings in London today. During the visit, Simsek is expected to try to reinforce confidence in the government's economic policies and highlight the country's commitment to structural reforms and stability, Daily Sabah write.
  • President Erdogan will be in Astana on July 3-4 and in Azerbaijan on July 5-6. He will then visit the US for the NATO summit on July 9-11, where he is expected to meet President Biden.
  • Turkey's adjusted consumer confidence index fell to 78.3 in June from 80.51 in May, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute, a new year-to-date low for the series.
  • Ekonomi report that the share of stocks in foreign investors’ portfolios decreased last month, while the share of bonds rose to 8.69%, an increase of 5.68 points since April.
  • Meanwhile, Dunya report that credit card spending surged by 103% in May. They add that new regulations are expected to limit the number of instalments and reduce credit card usage.
