Tusk Calls Emergency Weimar Triangle Summit, Poland Sells Debt

  • President Duda has stayed in the US for further engagements, but Prime Minister Donald Tusk returned from their joint White House visit, announcing that an emergency summit of the Weimar Triangle has been called for Friday. The Premier said that the "situation is difficult" and he needs to discuss aid for Ukraine with French and German leaders. He drew attention to the fact that the latest US aid package remains stuck in the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden assured that US commitment to Poland is "ironclad," while Tusk said that the US side confirmed it would honour its Article 5 commitments if Poland came under attack.
  • Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that Poland offered a "substantial" financial contribution to the Czech plan to buy hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition for Ukraine but refused to provide specific numbers.
  • The Finance Ministry will offer PLN6-9bn of OK0426, PS0729, WZ1129, DS0432, DS1033 and WS0437 bonds today.
