The UK ETS Authority opened consultation on extending the ETS beyond 2030 according to the government. 

  • The Authority aims to extend the ETS and recommends Phase II should run at least until the end of 2037 and could potentially run up to 2050.
  • They proposed three timeline options, including 7-year, 10-year and 12-year phase.
  • They further strongly recommended allowing the carryover of UKAs between Phase I and Phase II.
  • The consultation will run until 9 April 2025.
