UK Finance: Mortgage Approvals Edge Higher In Aug

Aug Mortgage Approvals 41,807 Vs 41,644 In Jul

     LONDON (MNI) - UK mortgage approvals edged higher in August but were still
below level seen in the opening months of the calendar year, data from  UK
Finance showed.
     There were 41,807 approvals in August, up from 41,644 in July and up 11% on
August 2016 but well below the 44,261 see in January. Re-mortgaging approvals
rose to 27,768 from from 26,413 in July.
     The UK housing market has never seen activity recover to anything like the
levels before the global financial crisis. In the UK Finance data series monthly
approvals were running above 70,000 in 2006.
     Net consumer credit, a measure of unsecured borrowing, saw slower growth in
August, rising stg83 million after a stg192 million rise in July.
