UK Inflation In Upside Beat, RPI At 30-year High

UK inflation surprises to the upside in October, with the headline CPI reading up 1.1% m/m and 4.2% y/y, outpacing expectations for a gain of 3.9%.

  • CPI was last higher in Nov 2011, when it came in at 4.8%
  • Core inflation was higher by 3.4% y/y, also beating expectations by 0.3%.
  • RPI, often used as a measure for pay bargaining, rose 6.0% y/y, the highest since the spring of 1991.
  • Factory gate inflation also rose again, with input PPI at 13%
