US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron are shortly due to deliver a joint press conference following a meeting at the Department of State. LIVESTREAM
- The meeting likely focused on the war between Israel and Hamas and the war in the Ukraine. On the former, transatlantic unity is showing signs of fraying after Cameron said on the weekend that the UK’s support to Israel is “not unconditional.”
- The BBC notes that Cameron, "set to broach the deaths of three British men working for aid organisation World Central Kitchen in Gaza."
- On Ukraine, Cameron is expected to meet with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and hopes to meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to urge him to approve aid.
- Cameron said in a video message on social media last week: “Speaker Johnson can make it [Ukraine aid] happen in Congress,” and urged his NATO counterparts to call Johnson to press him on releasing aid.
- The UK Foreign Office said in a statement that Cameron met former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida ahead of his visit to Washington but declined to offer details of their meeting.
