Ukraine Aims for 14.7bcm of Gas in Store Before Winter

Ukraine plans to build natural gas storage up from the current level of 9.3bcm to 14.7bcm by the start of the new autumn- winter heating season according to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Tuesday.

  • Ukraine storage was at 54.18TWh or 16.92% capacity on 21 May according to GIE data.
  • “We are increasing our own production, working with partners to obtain additional resources."
  • Refilling this year will be no easier than the previous season with focus on a 'colossal' amount of repairs to infrastructure and implementation of measures to defend energy facilities from potential air strikes he added.
  • Government officials have previously said that about 40% of the country's energy sector was damaged by Russian shelling.
