ENERGY: Ukraine Set for U.S. Peace Talks on Tuesday

ENERGY

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said via X on Saturday, “Ukraine is determined to do everything to end this war with a just and lasting peace as soon as possible.”

  • Zelenskyy said he is set to meet with the Saudi Crown Prince on Monday.
  • On Tuesday, his representatives will stay to meet with U.S. officials in a bid to repair ties with the Trump administration following the recent and public oval office spat.
  • “Realistic proposals are on the table. The key is to move quickly and effectively,” he added.
  • Talks this week are not intended for Russia and are instead mainly to repair U.S./Ukraine relations in a bid to bring Ukraine towards the U.S. “peace framework.” U.S. officials met with Russian officials in the Saudi capital of Riyadh in February for separate bilateral discussions.
  • Reuters sources report that the U.S. is using the Tuesday meeting to assess whether Ukraine is willing to make material concessions to Russia to end the war.
  • Russian troops have been making slow but steady progress in eastern Ukraine, while thousands of Ukrainian troops who stormed into Russia's Kursk region last summer are nearly surrounded.
