Ukrainian Power Imports Rise Near Record

Ukraine is planning to import 35,212MWh of power on Thursday, close to the record high of 35,606MWh in late June, the Ukrainian energy ministry said, cited by Reuters.

  • A Russian drone attack overnight hit Ukraine’s Chernobyl region, leaving almost 6,000 people without power, the head of the military administration of the Chernobyl region, Vyacheslav Chaus, said via Telegram.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenski confirmed this week he is working with neighbouring countries to increase Ukraine’s electricity imports.
  • The government previously reported Ukraine aims to increase its power import capacity to 2.5GW ahead of the upcoming winter.
  • Russia has destroyed around 9GW of Ukraine’s power generation capacity since the start of March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last month.
