RENEWABLES: UK’s 2025 CfD Rounds Crucial for Clean Power 2030 Plan

RENEWABLES

The UK’s next two CfD allocation rounds – rounds seven and eight - are critical for the UK to achieve the Clean Power 2030 Plan, Aurora Energy Research told PV Magazine.

  • “The key conclusion is that allocation round seven and allocation round eight will need to deliver quite a lot”, Marc Hedin, head of research for UK and Ireland at Aurora Energy Research, said.
  • Hedin further added that the pace of solar deployment needs to pick up with renewable auctions needing to break records this year.
  • He warned however that there is a risk to procure too much in one of the rounds which could create supply chain issues and therefore, lead to higher CfD prices.
  • The UK’s last auction round in 2024 – round six – set new records for solar PV with a total of 93 projects for a combined capacity of 3.288GW awarded.
  • The UK’s solar PV capacity stood at 17.2GW in December 2024, with the Clean Power 2030 Plan targeting 45-47GW.
