HUNGARY: Unemployment Rate, Economic Sentiment Edge Higher

  • Hungary’s unemployment rate rose to 4.4% in January from 4.3% in December, according to the Central Statistical Office. That was slightly below estimates of a larger increase to 4.5%, as per an analyst survey. The number of unemployed rose to 214k from 210.1k the month prior.
  • Meanwhile, Hungary's GKI economic sentiment index rose to -16.6 in February from -18.0 in January. Business confidence rose to -12.0 from -13.9 while consumer confidence was unchanged at -29.6.
  • Cabinet Minister Gergely Gulyas holds a press briefing at 09:00GMT/10:00CET following a cabinet meeting held yesterday. There are no other major data releases scheduled for today, with PPI figures for January due tomorrow morning (Prior: +9.0% Y/Y).
