Unemployment Rate Reaches Highest Level Since July 2020

HUNGARY
  • Hungary’s unemployment rate rose to 4.5% in January from 4.2% in December, according to the Central Statistical Office. That is more than the 4.3% expected and places the rate at its highest since July 2020.
  • Prime Minister Viktor Orban hosts his Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson in Budapest ahead of Monday’s planned ratification of Sweden’s NATO entry in Hungarian parliament. Orban said in a radio interview this morning that Hungary and Sweden will sign a substantial defense industry deal that will mark the last act that is needed to convince his lawmakers to back Sweden’s bid.
  • There are no other major data releases on the docket today. Looking ahead, the NBH rate decision is the key event next week (Feb 27).
