Unverified Reports Of Hezbollah Missiles Fired @ Israeli Base

MIDEAST

Social media reports are claiming that Lebanese Hezbollah has fired one or more Burkan short-range ballistic missiles towards the Biranit military barracks in northern Israel. At present it is unclear if the base was hit directly.

  • The region has been in a state of high tensions following the killing of senior Hezbollah and Hamas figures last week, with an aggressive response from Iran and its proxies expected.
  • It is unclear whether the missile attack on Biranit is part of a wider assault by Hezbollah, or a continuation of the recent rocket and missile fire from one side of the border at the other.
  • Biranit sits just a kilometre from the Lebanese border and has been a frequent target for Hezbollah attacks over the decades. Indeed, the base was damagedin Nov 2023 by rocket fire. As such, should the reports of a renewed attack prove correct, it may not end up escalating the situation unless it is as part of a broader Hezbollah operation.
