FOREX: Upbeat Powell supports greenback into the close
-After a disappointing payrolls release, Fed's Powell was in focus in the final
appearance of a Fed member before the blackout period. Powell was relatively
upbeat on the outlook, helping buoy the greenback into the close. Nonetheless,
the DXY held the bulk of the week's losses, down around 0.5% since Monday.
-GBP was nominally the poorest performer Friday as the currency falls victim to
profit-taking following the stellar recovery mid-week. Focus now turns to the
second attempt from the PM to call for a General Election Monday. Antipodean FX
sat at the other end of the table, benefiting from the confirmation of a
US-China top trade team meeting in October.
-CAD traded well following a better jobs number that contrasted with that of the
US. Both full and part-time employment change came in well above expectations,
helping pressure USD/CAD comfortably below the 50-dma and opening potential for
another leg lower to Fib support at 1.3103.
-UK and French production numbers, US CPI and retail sales and the ECB rate
decision will take focus in the coming week.
