Speaking at a US Institute of Peace event, 1st National Security Council Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific (also known as the administration's 'Asia Tsar') Kurt Campbell states that "We are not seeking to take provocative actions across the Taiwan Strait... We want other countries to make clear that what has happened in Ukraine cannot happen in Asia...[On Taiwan] Our policy has not changed,"
- Campbell: "It is accurate to say the US does not support Taiwan's independence"
- Chinese Foreign Ministry spox earlier today: "History brooks no falsification. The US’ political manipulation on the Taiwan question is sure to hurt the US itself."
- Comes after a US State Dep't factsheet was amended, removing a line stating that the US does not support Taiwan's independence, resulting in major opprobrium from Beijing.
- Campbell also speaking on other Asia matters at the USIP event. Says that "The US is prepared for any kind of diplomacy or engagement with North Korea.", and that "the US-Indo-Pacific economic framework will address the century's trade, investment, and standard-setting challenges'.
