US: Biden Admin To Request $24B For Ukraine & $114B For Disaster Relief In CR

US

Aidan Quigley at Roll Call reporting on Xthat the Biden administration is calling for USD$24b in supplemental funding for Ukraine, along with significant funding for submarine procurement, veterans health care and other items in the "anomalies" to be included in an upcoming Continuing Resolution to extend Fiscal Year 2024 government funding into next year.

  • Quigley adds that, "The administration has also increased its disaster relief request by [USD]$16 billion, for a total of [USD]$114.7 billion, adding funding for the U.S. Forest Service, repairs for Guam military facilities damaged by Typhoon Mawar, and other priorities."
  • The request indicates that the Biden administration may see House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-LA) majority in the House of Representatives, which may shrink to as little as one vote, as fragile enough to bolster Democrats' hand in the upcoming negotiations.
  • Congress must pass a funding extension by December 20 or the federal government will partially shut down. Current reporting from Capitol Hill suggests that Johnson may be eyeing an extension into mid-March to allow President-elect Donald Trump more influence over spending levels.
