NORTH KOREA: US/CHINA/GUAM: A lot of coverage of simmering geopolitical tensions
between North Korea and the US this weekend, additional coverage of Japan, China
and Guam. The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that Japan has deployed
several Patriot missile defense batteries in "Hiroshima and three other
prefectures" following last Thu's N. Korea threat to launch missiles over Japan
targeting Guam. Guam residents are said to be "prepared psychologically and
physically to hunker down," WSJ added. Yonhap News reported near 3.5 million N.
Korean "youths and retired soldiers" have requested enlistment/reenlistment "to
retaliate against" the US. The Australian, citing North Korea's Minju Joson
newspaper, reported Sunday that N Korea warned Pres Trump to "talk and act
properly," adding the U.S. "finds itself in an ever worsening dilemma, being
thrown into the grip of extreme security unrest by the DPRK. This is tragicomedy
of its own making." Meanwhile, South China Morning Post reported Saturday that
China Pres Xi Jinping called U.S. Pres Trump to urge restraint and and to
"persist in the general direction of dialogue, negotiations and a political
settlement."
