US "Comfortable" with Indian Approach to Russian Energy

The US is comfortable with India's approach to Russian energy according to US Assistant Secretary for Energy Geoffrey Pyatt.

  • He added that the price cap coalition is working and that the US not looking to sanction India on Russian energy purchases.
  • India emerged as the largest buyer of Russian crude in January, taking advantage of steep discounts on Urals as well as other Russian grades.
  • The US is pursuing "energy security agenda" which is "important" in light of Russian President Putin "weaponing Russia's oil and gas resources" Pyatt said.
  • Vessel tracking shows the US is pulling in higher volumes of road fuels into the US East Coast from India in recent months.
