US Cooling Demand Seen 9 CDD Above Normal This Week

US cooling demand for the week ending July 27 is forecast to be 9 cooling degree days (CDD) above the long-term normal, according to Bloomberg, citing the NOAA.

  • The regions with the largest deviation from the normal are the Pacific, 37 CDD above average, Mountain, 27 CDD above average, and W S Central, 19 CDD below average.
  • This week’s total forecast for CDD is 84, compared to a normal of 75 and down from the actual figure of 86 from last week.
  • During the week to July 20, the US was 12 CDD above normal.
  • Arizona remained the state with the highest total CDD at 161 CDD, 10 above normal.
  • CDD measures the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, summed across an entire week.
