US Heating Demand 3 Degrees Above Normal Last Week

The US averaged three heating degree days above normal for the week to April 6, according to Bloomberg.

  • Across the whole US, HDD totalled 105 degrees, compared to 123 in the week to March 30.
  • Heating degree days measure energy demand to heat buildings. It is the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is below a 65-degree Fahrenheit base.
  • The deviation from the normal is the difference between the long-term average HDD since 1981.
  • Looking at cooling demand, the US was two cooling degree days above the normal in the week to April 6.
  • The US averaged 6 CDD in the week to April 6, compared to 3 CDD in the week to March 30.
  • Cooling degree days measure energy demand to cool buildings. It is the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is above a 65-degree Fahrenheit base.
