US House Speaker Ryan: 'Working To Get' Tax Reform 'Consensus'

--House Speaker Ryan Says GOP Is Trying To Secure An Agreement On 'Framework'
For Tax Reform
--Rep. Ryan: 'Anybody's Guess' What Kind of Health Bill Senate May Pass
By John Shaw
WASHINGTON (MNI) - House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that congressional
Republican leaders and the Trump administration are "working to get consensus"
soon on a tax reform "framework."
At a briefing, Ryan said Republican talks continue on what specific policy
provisions such a tax reform framework might include and when it will be
unveiled.
Ryan said Republicans remain committed to "transformational tax reform."
Ryan has said repeatedly that he expects Congress to pass comprehensive tax
reform this year.
GOP leaders hope to announce a tax reform framework in the coming days.
Republicans have said they expect this framework to be largely a handful of tax
reform talking points rather than a specific plan.
On another matter, Ryan said the House could return to Washington to work
on health legislation during the August recess. But the Speaker said this
depends on what happens in the Senate on health legislation.
Ryan said it's "anybody's guess" what kind of health bill the Senate passes
in the coming days. "We don't know what the Senate will do," Ryan said.
Ryan hinted that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy will announce in the
next day or two that House members could be summoned back to Washington in
August to work on health care.
The House is scheduled to begin its August recess tomorrow, Friday, while
the Senate is scheduled to be in session for two more weeks.
