US LNG Arb to NE Asia Almost Open

The arbitrage for US LNG cargoes to Northeast Asia is almost open via the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope, which could signal a change in US cargo flows away from Europe and to Asia instead according to Spark Commodity data.

  • LNG freight rates have not shown a reaction so far despite Red Sea diversions, with rates currently at their seasonal second lowest level in the last five years for both the Atlantic and Pacific basins, Spark data showed.
  • JKM Mar 24 down -3.2% at 9.07$/mmbtu
  • JKM-TTF Mar 24 down 0$/mmbtu at 0.24$/mmbtu
