US LNG Capacity Operating or in Construction to 143m tons/yr by Year End

US LNG is set for a significant capacity increase this year, with several export projects reaching final investment decision or finishing construction according to Energy Intelligence. Capacity is expected to be boosted with 143m tons per year (20bcf/d) either operating or under construction by the end of the year.

  • The first of three trains at the 18.1m tons/yr Golden Pass project is expecting mechanical completion by the end of 2024 and operation in 2025 although about six months later than originally planned.
  • The 10m ton/yr Corpus Christi Stage 3 facility is expecting LNG production toward the end of 2024.
  • Full commercial operations are not expected at Calcasieu Pass until Q4 2024 despite Venture Global's ongoing clash with offtakers including BP and Shell.
  • About 10m tons/yr of Delfin’s floating liquefaction project is progressing to FID this year after failing to reach its targeted FID date in October 2023.
  • The 9.5m tons/yr Commonwealth LNG is targeting FID in Q1 and 5m tons/yr of Corpus Christi Trains 8 and 9 could also see an FID in 2024.
  • The 16.4m tons /yr Lake Charles LNG and 8m tons/yr Magnolia LNG have reapplied for DOE approval to export LNG.
