US LNG Exports To Europe Rose 10% YoY in 1H23

LNG

US LNG shipments to Europe increased by 10% on the year to 38bcm in the first half of 2023, Kpler data showed.

  • US supply accounted for nearly 47% of the total 81.2bcm imported by European countries in January-June – much in line with its share in the first half of last year.
  • Higher US LNG flows to Europe have been likely driven by more capacity and weak Asian demand, an analyst with an US LNG supplier said. She also pointed to a likely slowdown of LNG into Europe for the rest of the summer as weaker gas prices are deterring supplies.
  • The share of Qatari exports to Europe slipped to 13.6% in 1H23, compared with 15.5% for the same period last year.
  • Nigeria’s share also declined to 6.3% for the period, down from 8.2% last year.
