US Memorial Day Air Travel Tops 2019 Levels

Memorial Day air travel in the US surpassed pre-pandemic levels with a total of 9.79 million people traveling over the holiday, data from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) showed.

  • Memorial Day air travel from Friday through Monday showed 9.79 million people travelling, up by 300,000 from 2019 levels. Friday’s screening showed total of more than 2.7 million people, marking a post-pandemic record, supported by relatively good weather.
  • American Automobile Association forecasted earlier this year 42.3 million Americans are expected to travel at least 80 miles from home over Memorial Day weekend this year.
  • US gasoline demand over the Memorial Day Weekend (Thu-Mon) was down by 1.1% from 2022 levels, Gasbuddy data showed.
