US State Department: US Looking For New Avenues To Export Ukrainian Grain

WHEAT

US State Department spokesperson Vedant Petal has told reporters that the US is working "in close concert" with partners in Europe to find new avenues to export Ukrainian grain to markets.

  • Patel: "The Danube is a potential option and we are working in close concert with our European partners, with our Ukrainian partners to find avenues to get the Ukrainian grain to the places it needs to go... I don't have a new avenue or mechanism to announce today but I will reiterate again that we know the Black Sea Grain Initiative worked and we would call on Russia to rejoin it."
  • The Danube is the only remaining waterway for Ukraine to safely export grain but concerns remain about the capacity of ports and Russian attacks on Danube infrastructure leading to an escalation of the conflict.
  • White House sanctions coordinator, James O’Brien said after meetings in Romania last week that the volume of Ukrainian grain exported via the Danube “will more than double.”
