US & Taiwan To Resume Trade Talks Today

Taiwan dollar is flat today after losing some ground yesterday with caution around dividend related outflows from Taiex companies being touted as a driver for yesterday's drop. USD/TWD last at 27.896.

  • The US and Taiwan will commence long-stalled trade talks today, computer chips and vaccines are expected to be the main topics of discussion with Taiwan said to be keen to discuss the import and export of vaccines in particular. The talks will also look to strengthen trade relations between the two sides and speed up the post-pandemic recovery, while Taiwan will also gauge sentiment around a full trade deal with the US.
  • On the coronavirus front Taiwan reported 54 newly confirmed domestic cases, official said there was another Delta variant case discovered in Pingtung, with source of infection yet to be identified. There have been 9 cases of Delta variant in Taiwan so far.
