US, UK Impose Fresh Sanctions on Russian Industry & Exports

  • EU’s Borrell says the bloc should seize Russian reserves to rebuild Ukraine over the weekend, while the UK announced fresh sanctions targeting $2.09bn worth of trade to impede Russia’s war effort. This brings cumulative UK import/export sanctions to $4.91bn. G7 leaders also met to discuss phasing out Russian oil and elevate the campaign against Russian elites – FT, Sky
  • US imposed new sanctions on Russia targeting the media, Gazprombank executives, services and the defense industry amounting to 33 individuals, 22 firms & 69 ships. Export controls were also placed on Russia’s industrial sector (wood products, industrial engines, boilers, motors, bulldozers & other commodities.
  • Russia continued its assault on Mariupol over the weekend with some airstrikes also hitting Odesa and sinking a corvette warship. Russia said that any defenders leaving Azovstal would only do so as prisoners from now. Zelensky said it was impossible to unblock the besieged city by military means, calling for more heavy weapons from the West.
    • Russia also said that it struck US cargo shipments of Weapons to Ukrainian soldiers at a railway station near Soledar, while Ukrainian forces have been mounting a counter-offensive in Kharkiv – RTRS, Tass
