US Voter Support For Israel's Response In Gaza Drops

US

A new survey from AP-NORC has found that fifty percent of US adults now believe that Israel’s response in Gaza has "gone too far," up from 40 percent in November. The survey also finds that two-thirds of adults disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling the conflict.

  • AP notes: “About one-third of U.S. adults classify Israel as an ally that shares U.S. interests and values. After a small uptick in November, opinions have returned to their pre-war level… Though many believe Israel’s response to the Hamas attacks has gone too far, 6 in 10 adults still place a lot of the blame on Hamas for the current war.”
  • The survey comes as the Biden administration lays the groundwork for stricter measures on Israel and attempts to convince wavering Democratic voters that the White House has a post-war plan for the region.
  • Progressive Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said on Biden in an interview with New York Magazine yesteday: “I know that he is extremely uncomfortable with what’s happening in Gaza. What his people also understand is that if they want to win this election, they’re going to have to listen to the Democratic base, which is quite broad.”
