DOLLAR-CANADA
DOLLAR-CANADA: USD/CAD has added 8 pips thus far and last trades at C$1.3345.
Trade comments from U.S. President Trump put a modest bid into the pair, but the
reaction move has been promptly retraced. While calling upon GOP lawmakers to
pass the USMCA, Trump also singled out Canada as "knocking the hell out of" the
U.S. on trade.
- This comes after the pair finished 30 pips higher yesterday, as it jumped ~45
pips around the 1600 GMT London fix, following reports that home sales in
Vancouver slumped by 31% Y/Y in March, which played out against the backdrop of
the broader USD strength. The rate then eased off towards the close.
- Worth noting yesterday two Canadian ex-cabinet members, who resigned amidst
the SNC-Lavalin scandal, were expelled from the parliamentary caucus of the
ruling Liberal Party.
- Bulls look for a breach of the psychological C$1.3400 level, which acted as a
technical resistance/support on Mar 23/Mar 25. Meanwhile, a dip through the
100-DMA at C$1.3323 would open up C$1.3305, where the rate bottomed yesterday.
- Canadian labour mkt data comes out on Friday.
