USD Modestly Firmer Post Weekend Trump Assassination Attempt

The USD is firmer in early Asia Pac dealings. Most of the majors are down around 0.10-0.20% at this stage against the dollar.

  • USD/JPY is above 158.00, last near 158.15, AUD/USD is near 0.6780, while NZD, just under 0.6110. EUR/USD is close to 1.0890. NOK is off by more, weaker by 0.40% at this stage, although liquidity will be lighter for this pair (Last near 10.73). In the EM space, USD/MXN is firmer, last tracking towards 17.70.
  • USD indices were lower through Friday trade, as Fed rate cut expectations rose
  • Bitcoin tracked higher on Sunday, getting close to $60.5k, we sits below this level in early dealings.
  • This follows the weekend assassination attempt on US Presidential candidate Donald Trump. His election odds with have risen to highs of 65%, pre PredictIt. The incident is seen as boosting Trump's chances and early focus this week will be on trades that are linked to him returning to office.
  • Note Japan markets are closed today, so there will be no cash Tsy trading today, while yen liquidity could also be lighter.
