USDCAD Breaks Higher In Latest Risk-Off

CANADA
  • USDCAD hit new session highs as US equity weakness/risk-off gathered speed, hitting 1.2752 and easily through yesterday's high of 1.2734 in a snap reaction to Donbas shelling.
  • It moves closer to key resistance of 1.2797 (Jan 28 high).
  • Latest Fedspeak is unlikely a material mover:
  • Chicago Fed's Evans, a 2023 voter, noted the need for substantial shift in policy but stuck to his dovish credentials by noting that inflation is mainly due to factors that will correct whilst underlying inflation remains well-anchored.
  • NY Fed's Williams added he sees a March hike and balance sheet reduction later this year, with markets reflecting the shift in Fed policy.
