USDCAD Lifts After Brief Test Of New Recent Lows

  • USDCAD hit new lows of 1.3136, through the 1.3139 seen both earlier and on Thursday the day after a move lower on strong CAD retail sales, before lifting 20 pips.
  • Solid domestic data have buoyed expectations of further BoC hikes after it came off the sidelines earlier this month, most recently with decent increases for mfg/wholesale trade estimates after markets looked through a dip in weekly consumer confidence.
  • Technicals see scope for a move lower with next attention of 1.2992 (50% retrace of Jun -Oct’22 bull rally), whilst to the upside sits resistance at 1.3270 (Jun 20 high).
