USDCAD Pushes Through Post-FOMC Low

CANADA
  • USDCAD slipping to 1.3647 quickly pushes through the low of 1.3657 touched in the middle of Powell’s press conference before it fully reversed the 80-pip decline on the day.
  • Rising 0.6% vs the USD, CAD lags other high beta majors such as the NOK after a hawkish leaning Norges Bank and NZD, but otherwise outperforms on the day.
  • Close support is seen at 1.3644 (Mar 21 low), lows since Chair Powell opened the door to a 50bp hike shortly before regional banking woes came to the surface, after which lies the 50-day EMA of 1.3584.
  • A blank docket sees second tier US data releases in the driving seat plus of course any further banking headlines including potentially from Yellen.
