USDCAD Testing 1.36 Handle

CANADA
  • After a particularly subdued session yesterday, USDCAD has resumed a push higher, hitting 1.36 (+0.4%) after a recent clearance of resistance at 1.3582 (50% retrace of the Mar 10 – Apr 14 bear leg).
  • It opens 1.3617 (Mar 29 high) and then 1.3648 (61.8% retrace) in a continuation of a strong reversal of oversold conditions over the past 10 days off the low of 1.3302 on Apr 14.
  • High growth beta peers are generally under pressure today, although CAD outperforms NOK and AUD amidst the backdrop of USD strength.
  • Little on the local docket with only bill sales scheduled, leaving US releases in the driving seat with a myriad of second tier data releases before heavyweight earnings releases after the close from Alphabet, Microsoft and Visa.
