Uzbekistan To Severely Curtail Gas Exports This Winter

Uzbekistan has significantly reduced natural gas exports, amid a surge in domestic demand in the early stages of winter, deputy energy minister Sherzod Khodjayev said today.

  • Daily natural gas exports have declined to 1mcm, from 10mcm previously. Imports have increased by 20% without naming the origin of the gas.
  • The Energy Ministry had previously forecast 2022 gas exports at 3.3bcm, mostly sending to China and other Central Asian markets.
  • Gas production in the first nine months of this year decreased by 1.6% year on year. Officials see a deficit to needs of around 20mcm/day.
