Vaccine Mandate For Truckers Expected To Cause Supply Chain Problems

A law coming into effect January 15 preventing unvaccinated or partially vaccinated foreign truck drivers entering Canada will remain in place despite reports that it had been scrapped.


  • Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters CEO Dennis Derby has stated that the mandate will reduce the available workforce by 20 percent. Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) President Stephen Laskowski said that 'there isn't one aspect of the supply chain that won't be impacted by this measure.'
  • Canada is currently suffering from a surge in hospitalisation due to the Covid-19 Omicron variant and there are fears that the new regulation will hinder the government's Covid-19 response.
