Vaccine Support Ticking Up, But Still Notable Holdouts

Overall willingness to take a COVID-19 vaccine is continuing to trend upwards globally according to YouGov's latest tracker. However, there are still some major economies where vaccine hesitancy could impact the country's ability to emerge from lockdowns and avoid additional waves of infections.

  • Vaccine hesitancy or outright anti-vaxx sentiment remains a major threat to individual countries and the global economy.
  • The seven days from April 12-19 saw the highest number of new cases recorded during the pandemic so far (5.4mn), while India deals with a significant outbreak of a new variant causing mass casualties and overwhelming healthcare systems in hard-hit states.
