VdL: 'Belarus Leading Hybrid Attack Against EU'

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweets: "Belarus is leading a hybrid attack against the EU.

The EU as a whole is being challenged. [...] EU acts on 4 tracks: Humanitarian support, Diplomatic outreach to countries of origin, Sanctions, Border protection. [...] On sanctions. We propose rules to blacklist all means and modes of transport involved in trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. [...] And we are coordinating our sanctions with US, Canada and UK."

  • While border states have said the flow of migrants from Belarus has subsided somewhat, there remain major concerns of a re-escalation in activity on the Belarusian side of the border. Issue already causing tensions in Berlin, where a Belarusian plan for relocating thousands of migrants to Germany was swiftly rejected by the gov't.
