Venezuela And Opposition To Resume Talks Over Sanctions

OIL

Venezuela's government and opposition will resume political talks after more than a year 26 Nov in Mexico, potentially paving the way to lift crude oil sanctions, Norway's foreign ministry said on Thursday.

  • Norway, which is mediating the talks, said the parties would sign a "partial agreement" on social issues.
  • The talks could also pave the way for slackening US oil sanctions on Venezuela.
  • The US is preparing an extended license for Chevron Corp's oil operations in Venezuela if the meeting between the Venezuelan government and opposition takes place, Reuters sources said.
  • Chevron could win US approval to vastly expand operations in Venezuela as soon as Saturday once the political talks resume, Reuters sources added.
