Vessels Carrying 0.7bcm Have Been Diverted From French LNG Terminals

Several vessels carrying a total 0.7bcm have so far been diverted from French LNG terminals due to the ongoing strike action, while vessels are expected to stay in Europe and head to other European offload points according to Kpler and Refinitiv ship tracking data.

  • Workers began strike action on 6 March forcing all four LNG terminals offline.
  • The 13bcm/yr Dunkerque LNG is scheduled to return on Friday morning while Elengy’s three terminals are expected to return on Monday.
  • There are at least four vessels heading for French ports that have not yet changed their route, Kpler data show.
  • Kpler expects some of the LNG vessels on standby to be either diverted or postponed, “especially if the force majeure on Dunkerque LNG is further extended,” said Eleni Papadopoulou, Kpler analyst.
  • “It makes sense to stay in Europe. There are places where they can go,” Olumide Ajayi, senior LNG analyst at Refinitiv said.
