Vista Raises Vaca Muerta Production Forecast

Mexican company Vista Energy has raised its production forecast for the Vaca Muerta shale reserve in Argentina to 100k b/d by 2026, according to Reuters, up from 80k b/d previously.

  • Over the next three years, Vista also plans to start production from 138 new shale wells, up 33% compared to its previous estimate.
  • Vista forecasts that the cost of extraction will drop to $4/b by 2026 compared to the current $5.50/b as operation efficiency increases.
  • Vaca Muerta is the second-largest shale reserve and fourth-largest shale oil reserve in the world, according to Reuters.
  • Vista is the second-largest shale oil producer in Argentina behind state-owned YPF.
