Wang Yi: Act Of Decoupling Should Be Opposed

CHINA

MNI London: China's Xinhua news agency has reported comments from China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, as he continues security talks in Johannesburg, stating that: “Efforts should be made to resolve differences through dialogue, while acts of ‘decoupling’ and ‘double standards’ opposed.”

  • Wang's comments are a reference to the US-led policy of de-risking supply chains from China and came as part of a broader package of comments on the role of BRICS in what China calls the "multilateral" system, a foreign policy framework which underpins the China-Russia bilateral relationship and is likely to figure prominently on the agenda of next month's BRICS summit in Johannesburg.
  • Wang: “After more than 10 years of development, BRICS countries are important platform for emerging markets & developing countries.”
  • According to Xinhua, Wang, "called for adhering to mutual respect, abiding principles of united nations charter to cope with security risks facing world, and urged to uphold multilateralism, preserve multilateral system with UN at its core and resist unilateralism and hegemonic practice."
