WashPost: Meadows Bad Cop, Mnuchin Good Cop On Stimulus?

US

Some color from the Washington Post's Jeff Stein via Twitter on the White House's Mark Meadows comments earlier on "potential" for a COVID stimulus deal with Democrats: "Huh - White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows again calls for passing stimulus relief piecemeal -- an approach Democrats have rejected for months -- and then stresses the importance of moving in a "fiscally responsible manner" Maybe not a great sign for talks. Have heard speculation that Meadows is playing bad cop to Mnuchin's good cop -- Meadows' threat to walk away compelling Democrats to compromise. Problem is Pelosi has already shown Dems are willing to just walk away"

Politico's @JakeSherman concurs: "Not a good sign — no. Dems trying to sideline meadows here and we'll see where that goes."

Market continues to seek direction on prospects for fiscal breakthrough; meanwhile Treasuries continue to head lower on the session.
