Week Ahead

UK
  • Media headlines continue to focus on the supply issues in the UK economy, particularly the shortage at petrol stations. According to reports, the situation outside of London and south east England seems to be improving but the army are still being brought in to try and get the supply issues back under control. Labour shortages continue to be seen across the haulage industry, hospitality and food services (such as fruit pickers). This is a story that is going to continue for quite some time and we have covered in the previous two Gilt Week Aheads.
  • The upcoming week will also see the Conservative Party Conference (which will be watched for any more clues ahead of the Budget), the final print of the services PMI while the BOE's Ramsden and Tenreyro are both due to speak this week. However, it is likely that external events will be bigger drivers for the gilt market this week, particularly the release of the US labour market report on Friday.
