Week-Ahead Eases Back on Stronger Wind

The French week-ahead power contract has eased back from its weekly high set on Wednesday as wind forecasts next week have been revised up sharply from the previous day, with nuclear units anticipated to return, while solar output has remained relatively unchanged.

  • France Base Power Week-Ahead down 0.2% at 53 EUR/MWh
  • Wind generation over 20-22 August has been revised up by between 1.08-1.98GW, with the highest revision on 20 August.
  • Wind will be between 11-19% load factors over 19-22 August, or around 2.1-3.8GW.
  • In contrast, solar generation will be stable next at between 20-22% load factors over 19-23 August.
  • And the 910MW Bugey 2 nuclear unit will return on 17 August, with the 1.3GW Cattenom 4 and 890MW Dampierre 3 units back online on 19 August – likely weighing on delivery costs early next week.
